Clinical Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases/Immunology

The Jenner Institute

Clinical Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases/Immunology

Salary Scale for Whitley Council Clinical Grade E64: £30,685 - £49,178

Applications are invited from clinically qualified candidates, with MRCP, to undertake clinical trials of new investigational vaccines against malaria, influenza and hepatitis C as part of the University’s programme of vaccine design and development.  The trials will assess the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of promising candidate vaccines, including phase IIa challenge studies.

You will play an active role in the design and execution of clinical trials of new malaria, influenza and hepatitis C vaccines in Oxford, and will plan new studies with other team members. You will be responsible for administrative work involved in the trials including drafting of protocols, ethical applications, advertising and recruitment, design case report forms, data management and analysis, screening and vaccination of volunteers according to the protocol, conducting experimental challenge studies, where subjects are exposed to malaria infection, undergoing  intensive follow-up, presenting results as a verbal presentation or written report, and maintaining complete, accurate, organised study files.

There are two posts available. One is for a clinician to work on the malaria vaccine trials, and the second is for a clinician to work on the influenza and hepatitis C vaccine programmes. Both posts are available for 18 months in the first instance.  Both posts are based at the Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine, and are within the Nuffield Department of Medicine.

The posts are suitable for a clinician interested in research training and provide an excellent base from which to apply for Training Fellowship funding.   Previous research experience in clinical trials and/or cellular immunology would be an advantage.
