2nd Annual NIHR Clinical Research Infrastructure
Cardiovascular Workshop
Monday 4th July 2011
08:30 – 16:30 The Richard Doll Building, Oxford OX3 7ZY
Following on from the very successful 1st Annual Cardiovascular Workshop organised by Barts and The London Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit, we are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Workshop.
The 2nd Annual Cardiovascular Workshop is being hosted and organised by the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, in collaboration with the NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure (NOCRI). This meeting aims to further develop the themes highlighted at the first meeting, and provide a forum for developing ongoing collaborations.
The workshop will consist of presentations from key leaders, workshops, and discussion sessions with the overall aim to:
1. Define the present structures for clinical research in the UK
2. Recognise evolving methodologies to facilitate delivery of clinical studies
3. Formulate strategies to overcome boundaries to collaborative research
4. Demonstrate methods to develop collaborative research
Session 1 will focus on the understanding the structures available for collaborative research in the UK. This overview will be used to describe the present structures and how collaborative partnerships can be developed.
Session 2 will focus on the use of imaging as a surrogate clinical measure, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of surrogate endpoints.
Session 3 will use valve and heart muscle disease as models to illustrate how to facilitate collaborative research. The aims are to define the current gaps in research and identify the structures and mechanisms for a collaborative approach to address these areas.
