Public Involvement Programmes
Oxford Biomedical Research Centre is developing an active programme of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI).
Our aim with this programme is to promote and support research engagement and provide a forum in which researchers and the wider public can share different views and perspectives on NIHR funded translational research.
The following projects or programmes are currently underway.
How do these projects or programmes support PPI?
It is important that in clinical research, the patient and public are acknowledged and engaged as key stakeholders. They should also be involved in many different aspects of the clinical research process.
As a partnership organisation within an NHS hospital working alongside University colleagues, one of our core aims is to carry out research that is of a high standard, is relevant and which contributes to improved patient care. Our other core aim is to ensure that public and patient involvement becomes an essential part of all translational research that we fund. The Oxford BRC aims to be an innovative and collaborative organisation in the field of PPI. By working with social researchers and ethicists, we can promote and support the patient’s viewpoint at every stage of both BRC funded translational research and for other research taking place across the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust and the University of Oxford. Collaborations with health economists, local communities and partners at the Saïd Business School will help us define what value translational research brings to the NHS and to improved patient care as well as what it means to the public.
