Vaccines
Immunisation is one of the most cost-effective health interventions and protects our children from the threat of serious disease every day. Despite the incredible impact vaccines have had on health, they are undervalued because immunisation takes once-feared diseases out of the public eye so that the focus has shifted from the benefits of disease prevention to the safety of the vaccine. Today there is a queue building up of new vaccines that could further transform the health of both children and adults but implementation is threatened because society values health expenditure on the present more than immunisation against diseases that will happen in the future. Some of the work in Oxford that supports developments in vaccines here and abroad will be discussed
