Brain Research Theme

In the Brain Theme we are engaged in a number of projects which will increase our understanding of the mechanisms of certain disorders of the brain, how we can improve their diagnosis and finally how we can find better methods of treating them.

We are applying the very latest technologies to undertake this work, including functional brain imaging using magnetic resonance imaging and magneto encephalography, deep electrical stimulation of the brain and using sophisticated laboratory methods where we have discovered new antibodies which cause certain previously undiagnosed neurological diseases. Several different disorders are studied, which include multiple sclerosis, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain and diseases of the eye. In addition, the Brain Theme works closely with the BRC Stroke Theme.
