Diabetes Research Theme

The Diabetes Theme aims at connecting basic research in diabetes to frontline clinical care by using the latest findings in genetics and genomics and integrative physiology in well defined patients.

The key scientific aims of the Diabetes Theme are:

•  Translation of advances in the understanding of the genetic and genomic basis of type 2 diabetes into improvements in clinical management and outcome

•   First-in-man/proof of concept studies of potential novel therapeutic agents within defined study populations, with an emphasis on the development and evaluation of novel clinical endpoints.

•    Development, optimization and clinical implementation of protocols for islet cell transplantation within the only EU-compliant islet isolation facility in the UK

There are 4 main areas of research in the Diabetes Theme

Genetics and Genomics

Islet Cell Transplantation

Translational Research Group

OCDEM Clinical Research Facility

Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism  (OCDEM)
