Hepatitis B vaccine

The Department of Health introduced a preschool booster of hepatitis B vaccine in 2006 for infants exposed to the virus perinatally but there are no data to support this recommendation. In February 2009, OVG team have begun a study of 50 children who have been exposed to Hepatitis B infection perinatally to provide data on the persistence of antibody following the infant schedule and the response to a preschool booster to inform current policy.
